I contacted Betsy Beaulieu (12 Feb guestbook entry), and pointed her in the right direction --- providing the Ft. McNair info for the FDC request.

I've only ever seen TOGFDC on television, but I enjoy them more than any of the other military bands. I love the tight marching moves, formations and music. Brings a tear to my eye whenever I see them. It's enough to make anyone proud of our countries heritage and never-ending progress. Other world leaders should be jealous we have such a great band! Keep up the proud tradition!

Hello Alan-I had the pleasure of performing with your brother Everett while in the Old Guard. I lived across the hall from him in the barracks. Everett was not only a great fifer but was well liked by all. I believe I may have a few old including Everett somewhere in the house; and if I find any I will be happy to share them with you.
Alan Miner - Newington, CT Posted 25 May 2006 at 10:07PM
I am Everett Miner’s older brother. I was wondering whether you had nay other pictures of Everett than those on your site. I perused your site and found the picture of Everett and Mr. Marks, and, of course, had a good cry. If you have others, I would be grateful if you could pass them along. Thank you so much! Alan

It is my undrerstanding that the soldier who stood guard over the gravesite of the late President John F. kennedy upon his burial on the 26 November 1963 was then a soldier from the old guard who went on to be retired General Joseph Kinzer. Is there anyone who can verify my question. If so, please contact me at the above email Cazm1960@yahoo.com

Greetings. I just found out about the website and organization from my friend Jim Jaeger. He was a year behind me in the OG but we have known each other since junior high. he was best man at my wedding while at Ft. Myer. Jim, Mark Gonzales, Lee Sword, and myself all came from the same corps in Tucson, they all a year after me. I am a life member of TOGA and am happy to see a group dedicated to FDC. Is there any interest among FDC alumni in the TOGA? I think there is only a few of us to my knowldege. Thanks again, steve
Betsy Beaulieu - Springfield, MA Posted 12 Feb 2006 at 3:36PM
I am contacting your group to see if you might be available to perform for us on Friday, June 8th, 2007 between 5:30 and 6:30pm, on the Green at the Storrotown Village on the Big E Grounds. We are presently booking our events for that evening, and we expect approximately 4-500 ladies and their quest at a Friday Night get together at Storrowton to kick off our week long convention here in Springfield, MA. Our committee for this event thought, that having your fife and drum corps perform would bring a true sense of patriotism and New England history to our event. There will be many guest here from across the United States and Canada, that have never seen a Fife and Drum Corp, or a touch of New England History. We still need to clear this will the Big E, but do not anticipate a problem. We know that you are in great demand and wanted to see what your schedule is for this date. Would you please advise me as to your protocol for such events and if you can assist us. A little history about our organization: We are an international organization of ladies, we are called the Daughters of the Nile and we are related to Shriners by birth or marriage. Our mission is to assist the Shriners in their philanthropy to help the children of the Shriners Hospitals Burns and Orthopedic Hospitals. As you may know the Shriners Hospitals offer Burn, and Orthopedic care to children ages birth to 21 at no cost to their family. We sincerely hope that you can assist us. Kindest Regards, Betsy Beaulieu Committee Co-Chair 413-796-1377

Way to go Anne Bernoux. Stunning Ft. Meyers and reunion pictures! Are you teaching elementary school these days?
Thomas Gill -  Posted 17 Jan 2006 at 10:13PM
I am Not sure who will get this but I put my fahters name into google search and this was what I came too. My dad was Richard Stanick, better known to all of his friends as Red. He talked so fondly of his days with the "Fifer's" and had numerous funny stories to tell. So I felt it my duty to share with you some bad news. Red became very ill with cancer 2 years ago, and finally went to be home with the lord on thursday January 12th. Dad fought bravely, and never wavered in his faith in God. I hope all of you can take just a second to remember what a funny, and great man my father was. Thank you so much for your time - Thomas Gill - Stanick -

Great site! I haven't been back here for at least 10 years and I'm happy to see its grown so much. I spent 2 years in the local reserve unit as a PACrat and then re-upped for another 6 "in case something happened". Can you believe it? Got 2 kids now, one 20 and the other 13. No tattoos, no broken bones, no police record, that's my motto. Both are brass-holes - the oldest on trombone and the youngest on tuba, maybe one will try out for the corps one day :-) (The remainder of this message has been continued in "Stories". - Editor)
Benson Edward 1974-1982 - Charlotte, NC Posted 19 Dec 2005 at 8:53AM
Wow! What a great site!! Just to catch up a bit...Joy and I are still going strong. Will celebrate 31 years together in just a few days. We have 2 kids, a boy 21, and a girl 20. After leaving the Corps in '82, finished up at the School of Music and pulled a great tour with the 24th ID (Mech) Band at Fort Stewart, Ga. Got out and went into the transportation industry where we enjoyed a couple of corporate transfers ending up as a terminal manager in Macon, Ga. Left them in '90 for a manufacturing job in the roofing industry. After managing a plant in Macon for 15 years, Joy and I accepted a manufacturer's rep position in Charlotte, NC where we reside today. We are close to home and loving it. I went back to school and finally completed my undergrad work on my 50th birthday this year. Got a BSB/M degree with honors. That's it in a nut shell. It has been great to find this site and to use it to kind of catch up with friends. Ed (Benny) Benson 1973-1982 Bugle

For the Corps history book, I think it is worth mentioning the Corp performed extremely well in 3d Infantry's mission of recovery after 9/11 at the Pentagon. Along with other Companies of Old Guard the Corp performed as an element of Force Protection element of Ft Myer. In a briefing prior to deployment to the Pentagon site on the 12th of October 2001, it was asked if there was any one in the organization that would have issue with the Pentagon casualty recovery operation..... no one refused or hesitated. At that time I was the most proud my unit. The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps
Arnold III Johnnie 1975-1978 - Evans, Georgia Posted 19 Oct 2005 at 12:45PM
The Fife and Drum Corp was a most memorable experience for me, one that I still cherish and talk about to this day. A lot of people can't envision me as a bugler or a trumpet player in a band and especially in the Fife and Drum Corp. When I left the Corp I dropped playing the trumpet and bugle. I then immediately joined the Air Force Reserve at Dobbins AFB, Georgia in 1977 as a high voltage electrician. I stayed with the Air Force Reserves for five years then moved on to join the regular Air Force in 1982 where I severed with Civil Engineering at Patrick AFB, Florida as a high voltage electrician, then as a instructor at Sheppard AFB, for six years. Moved to Sheyma AFB, Alaska for a year, then to Pope AFB, North Carolina, served in Desert Storm/Desert Shield campaign in Saudi. Later returned to Sheppard AFB, Texas as a Instructor Supervisor where I spent my last three years and retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. For last ten years have been working as an Information Technology Specialist.

I was just checking out your great site and ran across the name of someone I might have known at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia. The name is Mindy Cappellin (although the person I knew went by Noelle). If this person was at the SOM around '85-'86 and remembers me (I was a Marine Corps trumpet player), I'd love to hear from her. Thanks for your time, Jim Quakenbush

I wasn't in long enough to do, say, or add anything to the legacy of TOG F&DC. But I watched, learned and listened, and went on to write and teach in the civilian Ancient fife and drum corps world. After a long sebatical away from the fife, I find myself revisiting old haunts and familiar places--rekindling past alliances with The Ancient Mariners and The Kentish Guards, and longing for an opportunity to counter-march back in time, equipped with todays knowledge. If it were possible, I would have stayed. Now, too many years have gone by--too many friendships squandered and cast adrift. I'm proud to have served. i miss you.

Mr. Williams,Dr.Doom is still teaching as far as I know in Dublin Ga. I havent had an opportunity to contact him yet but I hope to soon. That drum solo you mentioned if I were to play a few minutes Im sure you would hear some of it in all of our parts...he was a stickler for certain riffs that are stuck in my mind to this day! lol
Williams Thomas 1977-1980 - Mechanicsburg, PA Posted 7 Jul 2005 at 9:02AM
Nathan: It was great to read your message about Jim Nuss. I had the honor, and a lot of fun, playing in the OGFDC drum line with your drum instructor Jim Nuss. Jim wrote some super drum parts including a drum solo we played he dubbed "Doomsday". Or was that really "Doom's Day"? Did he by chance share this drum solo with you? I do have a recording of the solo from a show we did at the Perry Lakes Stadium in Perth Western Australia. Jim was not on this trip. He may even have left the army by then.I think of Jim often and how he made everyone in our line better drummers. Back then most of the drummers lived in the barracks and we spent many hours listening to Jim's favorite drum corp music in his room. The Kilties and , The Muchachos come to mind.I wonder if he is still teaching. Is he still in Georgia? Ah the memories. Tom Williams snare drum 1977-1980

Im a proud former drum student of James Nuss (aka Dr. Doom) who served from 21 November 1977 to 31 July 1979. Ill never forget the first day I met Mr. Nuss in 7th grade beginner band. He seemed ten feet tall and very intimidating but I soon learned I was in the presence of greatness. I lugged my Ludwig snare into the Coffee Jr. High bandroom and was astounded at his chops and his "unconventional" teaching methods.(LOL)Im the drummer I am today because of Mr. Nuss as drumming and music has shaped so much of my life and now my familys. The Old Guard was very fortunate to have him as I was to be one of his students. Mr Nuss thank you for being a great teacher, mentor and friend.

Your Band is fantastic!!!!!!! and your Drum Corps is the best I have ever seen. I have been working with the Canadian Military Pipes and Drums Program for the past 20 years and I have never seen anything quite like "The Old Guard" I had the pleasure of working with your group at the 1996 Nova Scotia International Tattoo and a few years ago here in my home town of Hamilton, Ontario. MSG "Fred" J. Coffey is the "KING" of the "BIG DRUM" I hope to see you one day on the Pipe Band Circut. Semper Paratus to one and all.

Myer looks like today, go to this link: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/ put in 100 lee Blvd Fort Myer Va and when the next screen comes up, select the 2002 photo. Then zoom out until you see what's left of the parade field and Pershing blvd, then you can zoom back in and look at the companies or cemetary ect. Third World back in the day. Being the first brother in the ogfd, it was a monumental break-through for the U.S. Army. I had to be crazy, for fun, Jack (Drum Major-SFC Ranger) and I would go find a water tower and repel from the top.
The Chief - Florida Posted 13 Mar 2005 at 11:34AM
Support Us Troop's Constitutional Rights to Our Earned Entitlements, DOD won't. DOD supports the THEFT of military retirement/retainer PAY in violation of the US Supreme Court and the congressional goal of having the military retirement system serve as an incentive to recruitment and retention. Why doesn't DOD provide mandatory USFSPA briefs to protect service members similar to mandatory SBP briefs to protect military spouses? Why is a federal law allowed to interfere with powers the constitution reserved for the states, only for members of the Armed Forces? Why does DOD continue to fight us career vets over an antiquated, discriminatory law that denies service members their due process and equal treatment?

If you were in TOG after 1969, your a NEW ASS. Does anybody know where Lyle Davieau is? I must admit that I had a lot of fun in the 3rd herd. MDW is the best place to live and party in. (for a short time) I still drum in a few parades a year with The Ancient Mariners. (I think my liver is shot) Cheers Tom

Hello everyone, Marched in the Williamsburg Christmas Parade and it brought back a lot of memories. Some good, others not so good. Chuck Davis, Charlie and Bill White were there and we talked of the Old Guard. I missed the reunion because I am a PA announcer for The Apprentice School Football Team and we had a game that Saturday. Allen Reed called me about 2 weeks before the reunion. He did a Google search on my name and it came up on my church website. He contacted my church and they got the message to me. I work at Northrop Grumman Newport News. I am a System Administrator for our Unix Servers. I wished I would have listened to Steve Rustin This is a great website. Take care. Hey Phil, how about those Red Sox!!

Greeting to all from one of "The Originals". It's been almost a year since Ross got all of us together for the first FDC Alumni Reunion and a good time was had by all. I remember speaking to quite a number of alumni about The Old Guard Association, of which I am the Presient for 2004-2005, and about all the good times we had in The Old Guard. I encourage all alumni to join our association and relive with others the times we had in The Old Guard. The Association has members from all segments of the Regiment, FDC, Tomb Guards, Line Units, Guns Platoon, Caissons, and the members service stretch from World War 2 through today. We just finished our annual reunion, 8-12 September, and are beginning to plan for our 2005 reunion, 21-25 Sep 05. Please check out our website, www.oldguard.org, and if you have any questions, please contact me at my email address above. Hope to hear from you and OLD GUARD. Pete McDermott, Bass Drummer, Jan 60 to Jul 62.

I just found this site and was so happy to see the old pictures: most of mine were lost. Also I am sorry to have missed the reunion. Hope there is another one someday. Anyone from 74-76 contact me and send pics (especially of me!). We had some great times...hoping to hear from some of the gang. No hard feelings just because I was Police Area Honcho (someone had to do it!). "You cant leave friday until the floors are stripped and polished." LOL Rick Taylor (bugler)

I was a big fan of the Old Guard during the time I spent in Washington, D.C. back in 1972 and 1973. I have always loved drum corps and to this day, I follow our local corp. I met and knew some of the corp, and would love to know how one in particular is doing. I don't need to make contact, just how he is doing. I found his name listed in the years of 1970-1977. His name was James Casey. He was a very special person to me, and i hope he is well and happy. Is there any information that you could give to me regarding Jim? He was from Tennessee, and I believe moved to Florida after leaving the service. As the mother of a sailor on active duty, the military will always hold a special place in my heart.I am a Blue Star Mother and will always be one. Thank You. Kathy (Lyddy) Sullivan

Hi Tom, Thanks everyone for the leads! His aol address is not working and I have done a search for him on Yahoo, no results. Someone said he went back to Florida. I manage a country club here. When my wife became pregnant we decided to move closer to her parents and we had already spent 3 years here before. We really love it here but I am searching for a bigger, better club. Just finished my MBA and we have a son due in October! Everything is great, just wished I had attended the damn reunion! Sounds like everyone had a fantastic time. I will certainly attend the next. Sincerely wish everyone the best. John

In response to your inquiry about Dino, I ran into him at the reunion. He is in California, in the Los Angeles area I think, working in his uncle's construction business. I also ran into Jenks and Sven and many others. It was a great time and it was a well organized event. What are you doing in Arkansas? And do you keep in touch with any OGFDC alums?

Hi, Saw the pics from the reunion and am very sad to have missed it! Looks like a lot of fun! Does anyone know how to get in contact with Dino Trapp? I have something for him from Coach Don Shula. Anyone who knows Dino understands his love of the Dolphins and Coach. Thanks in advance for your help! John Spies

It was a pleasant surprise to find this site. My daughter actually found it while searching our family history. The first parade I marched in with the Fife and Drum Corps was the July 4th Circus Parade here in Milwaukee in 1972. The last parade I marched in before retiring from the Army Reserve was again the Circus Parade in 1997. The Corps was marching in the parade also. It was nice to talk with the corps members even though those who would have remebered me were left back in D.C.

Gents, I can't believe that I missed what sounds to be a great reunion. Really have enjoyed reading your posts, and looking forward to re-connecting with you pirates! Have some great memories from the Corps. News from my end? Have four kids and one grandson. Still active in church, Scouting and now amateur radio (KX4BSA). Started a risk management company about three years ago. Mizaudrey sends her love to "the guys." Hope to see you all at the next one of these!

I suppose that I should have gone to the reunion, after all, I was all for it when Ross started to put it together and I even helped Kickit (Don Fransisco) put together some contact info for our "class". However, I left the Old Guard FDC with some very strong feelings about just why I was leaving after 10 years in the Army and I now find it an intersting dichotomy that I both love the FDC and hate the FDC so much at the same time. Maybe those feelings won't be so strong when or if another FDC reunion is organized in the future, but for this one, I just couldn't bring myself to go.

Ross, I want to thank you for putting the alumni web site together. This has been the only contact with former members that has been available for a lot of us. A very special thank you to you for bringing the first OGFDC reunion to reality. How great it was to see some of my old friends I served with 40 years ago, and to meet a few of the others that have served since. I would be more than honored to assist you in setting up the next reunion. Thank you, Ross.

Had a wonderful time at the Reunion last Saturday. A special thanks to Ross Andrews for the hard work and effert that he had put into this successful gathering. What would a fifer do without a good drummer around. Regards, Bob Arruda

What a fantastic time at the reunion. Although the association is a mere fledgling it is already strong.Thank you Ross, reunion czar. For those of you who could not make this one, you won't want to miss the next one.I am still recovering. And for all of you guys and gals who ets'd out of fdc and have ever wondered whether the tradition of high quality performance has been lost or has been diminished, rest assured the OGFDC is very much alive and well and current members are upholding the high standards. Yes, to be sure many things have changed, but quality has not. Proud to be F D C .

I've been checking the roster of registered attendees for the reunion, and it looks like it should be a GREAT time! I am really looking forward to spending several hours playing my fife in the parking lot. (...Just kidding! I know how that used to annoy everybody! And yes, I have gotten significantly LESS annoying over the years - LOL) I also have several items to bring for the "history" table, including a certain "Pirate's Story" that was "found" written out on parchment......... (those who remember, will remember!!) ...... and some pictures from San Antonio, Lake Placid, etc. etc. etc. It's a darn shame that the "rubber fife" met such an ignominious end! (What?? You don't know what happened to the rubber fife? Well, you better get your butt to the reunion, then!!) See y'all there!

Two years ago tomorrow so many of our lives were changed. We were taken off the parade field, taken out of colonials and dressed in steel pots and gas masks, put in places we never expected. My memories of that day are vivid, as I am sure they are for many. I want to thank everyone for their dedication and support during those times. We did jobs and tasks that we were never trained for,let alone supplied for. I saw strengths from so many people. I pray that the corps is as strong now as we were then. Good luck to you all.

Matt Thorenz - Calverton, NY Posted 11 Jun 2003 at 6:02PM
I would just like to say that you guys are my greatest inspiration. I tried to get a F&D Corps started with my NJROTC unit(unfortunatly that failed). Me and my friend (a fifer) played "God Bless America" at the NJROTC awards night and we got a standing ovation. I remember I first saw the Old Guard perform at the reenactment of the Battle of Brooklyn in 2000. What a sight! I was awstruck. You were the best! espeacially when you gave us a cheer after we left the battlefield. I felt a sense of pride in my ability I had never felt before. Now I also teach many young drummers of a Civil War Group and I mention when I first met the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps on that hot day in July. Please send me an autographed picture of the 2000 Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. You are my heros, Your Servant, Drummer Thorenz of the 3rd NY Long Island Companies of 1775.

Jancoser Donald 1966-1967 - Dallas, Texas Posted 27 Mar 2003 at 7:06PM
I just discovered this great website and find that there is no real record of my service with this unit. I notice some of the other guys listed from that time don't have good info, either. Strange coincidence. First, my last name is Jancosek and not Jancoser, although I've been called a lot worse. I was there as a fifer from 7/66 to 10/67 and have some good memories. I'd sure like to see if I can lay my hands on a copy of the "1965 yearbook" that is mentioned here. I'll contribute comments about some of my buddies later when hopefully my vague memories of some of them begin to sharpen a bit. I was there when knee britches were worn and there were no women or people of color because it was told to us that the unit had to be authentic to the times. Who knew different? Hughes ran the operation and Jones was the drum major. For being drafted, I ended up in a honey of a place. More to come.
Walling Kenneth 1966-1968 - Concord, NC Posted 17 Mar 2003 at 10:07AM
Paul Robotti: Greetings, "Class Organizer"! Is there a spot on the OGFDC Site where we could at least see a "Yes / No" check mark, indicating that we have a current address (mail; email; phone) for Alumni? Such a list would be helpful to us and all Alumni, seeking this info. Obviously after I would see a "Yes" for someone, I'd like to receive that info - still keeping it somewhat confidential... (Perhaps I just haven't dug deep enough, inside this GREAT Site... Thanks Ross.) - Ken

I would first off like to say that the Old Guard has been one of my future plans since I began marching in Fife and Drum, in September of 2000. I am currently a Bass Drummer. I have a question that is probably answerable by SOMEONE. My drum instructor, Peter S. Hubert told me that he was once in the Old Guard, and I was trying to find pictures, or any information in general about hiim at that time. Any help would be much obliged. Thank You.
